영어공부를 어느 정도 하시고 일생생활에서 영어를 많이 접한 분들은
주어 + 동사 + 목적어 + to 부정사 | I want you to meet here again. |
‘나는 네가 그녀를 다시 만나기를 원한다.’ 이 와 같은 구조를 표현하시는 경우가 많으실 것입니다. 즉, ‘주어가/는 목적어가 to 부정사 하기를 동사한다’ 의 표현입니다.
오늘 다룰 단어 ‘suggest, recommend, propose’는 왠지 위의 구조와 궁합이 잘 맞아 보입니다. Problem sentences를 봐도 표현이 자연스럽게 흘러가는 듯 느껴집니다.

It is optional to put the word ‘should’ in the first corrected sentence. Furthermore, the use of ‘should’ is more common in British than American English. It sounds formal to Americans. |
여기서 ‘propose’에 대해서 한 가지 짚어보도록 하겠습니다.
아주 기분 좋은 단어인 것 같습니다.^^ 이 단어 역시 몇 가지 구조를 가집니다.

propose to | He proposed to her yesterday. 이 구조는 ‘to ask someone to marry you’의 의미밖에 없다. |
다시 말하자면, ‘propose to~’구조는 청혼을 할 때 사용한다. 예문을 해석해보면,
‘그는 어제 그녀에게 청혼을 했다.’ 문장에서는 ‘청혼’이라는 표현을 사용하지 않았지만 ‘propose’에서 이미 그 의미를 담고 있으므로 굳이 표현을 할 필요가 없는 것이다.
