What do you feel about the economic term 'monopoly'? They must be regarded as a kind of a predator, who takes unfair advantage of consumers in need as a sole provider for some goods or services within a society. There is a book, which I have been reading, viewing this overpowering way of producing and marketing from outside the box. The title of this pocket-sized book is "zero to one", by which it means something appearing out of nowhere and utterly creative in the business world. This book was written by a co-establisher of Paypal, a ground-breaking and convenient mode of payment online, which interested me when I pulled it off the bookshelf of the library. In principle, companies are bound to see a decrease in a margin of profit in the end because potential competitors are waiting to enter the business with the same kind of goods or services as the creator of the original. In such a competitive state of the market, providers have to cut down prices to survive to a point where no participant in the market gets the upper hand over one another. On the other hand, some innovative companies such as Apple or Google can dominate their market and get more and more revenues with their superiority and without any exposure to competitors. To sum up, this book is a real page-turner, full of insights on monopoly and business. Given that I am determined to start my own business and make it on my own in the future, this book will lead the way for me.
